Project Overview

Metafence was approached by Beale Wildlife Park to assist in designing and delivering a secure animal enclosure for their newest arrivals — a pair of Eurasian lynx. The park needed a cost-effective, high-security containment system that prioritised both animal welfare and public safety. Drawing on our experience with bespoke wildlife fencing systems, we proposed a tailored solution to ensure secure housing, operational flexibility, and safe public viewing.

Why Beale Wildlife Park Chose Metafence

The park was looking for a fencing contractor with the ability to design and install a custom wildlife enclosure — with features suited to the natural behaviour and needs of big cats.
Metafence worked closely with the Beale team to develop a fully bespoke mesh system that addressed:

  • Escape prevention through buried and cranked mesh
  • Jump deterrence with integrated hot wire systems
  • Keeper safety via airlock access
  • Visitor engagement through designated safe viewing points

Our ability to manage the project from concept to completion made us the ideal partner for this unique and sensitive installation.

Work Completed

  • Trenched the entire boundary to allow mesh fencing to be buried underground, preventing escape through digging
  • Installed a cranked-top mesh system topped with a live hot wire to deter climbing or jumping
  • Created a keeper airlock gate for controlled, safe entry into the enclosure
  • Installed a remote-operated guillotine gate, allowing lynx to move safely between zones
  • Added a spectator rail to denote visitor viewing areas, ensuring public safety
  • Built a timber closeboard fence to store feeding and care equipment out of view

Results & Benefits

  • Secure & Ethical Animal Containment: A custom-designed mesh enclosure now safely houses Beale Park’s lynx, preventing escape and supporting welfare
  • Improved Public Engagement: Designated safe-viewing zones improve the visitor experience while maintaining a safe distance from animals
  • Breeding Success: The enclosure now supports active breeding — with lynx kittens born on-site
  • Keeper Safety & Operational Control: Integrated airlocks and remote gate systems allow for safe and efficient handling by staff

Durable, Low-Maintenance Solution: Built for longevity using high-spec materials suitable for wildlife environments
